A scary scene in Iowa today after one person was seriously injured in a 50-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 80 near the town of Altoona.
Iowa State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Alex Dinkla said one person was seriously injured after the wreck in the westbound lanes of I-80 just east of the east mixmaster interchange before reaching U.S. Highway 65. Dinkla did not release any other details of what caused the crash but said police are still accounting for all vehicles involved.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation I-80 westbound is blocked between the Highway 65 exit and the exit to I-235.
There were multiple wrecks Monday after snow moved through the area and caused slippery roads across most of central Iowa.
Monday morning, brief, but heavy snow showers moved through the area as a cold front swept through.

Snow is making the roads slick in the metro! This crash just happened on I-80 WB at Merle Hay. Take it slow on the roads and leave plenty of room between you and the next vehicle. pic.twitter.com/WxNigF3gO0
